PV Carports – Fill up on Solar Power in the Shade
Most electric vehicle (EV) owners pay attention to the nature of the power that charges their vehicles, preferring clean renewable power such as solar. Most residential homes of EV owners accommodate a sufficiently sizable solar array to generate all of the power that their electric vehicles would consume on an annual basis. Whether charging the battery at home or in the parking lot at the supermarket, PV carports always offer great flexibility and efficiency. A portion of the solar energy is flowing into the battery, while the rest either benefits other consumers, or is directly fed into the power grid. Today, the solar and electric vehicle industries, can provide a complete solution that enables emission-free driving as well as clean, low-cost electricity. PV carport providers are turning their systems into the perfect solar filling stations for electric vehicles.
Charging Stations – Electric Filling Stations
Intelligent charging stations can not only recharge the batteries of electric vehicles, they also can balance their charging times and adjust the electric fueling with the solar power generation. In this way they maximize the solar energy share in automotive batteries and avoid the purchase of expensive peak load power.
According to Navigant Research several major automakers are planning
to bring wireless systems to market within the next few years, and a significant portion of the industry believes that wireless technology represents the future of plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) charging.
As of early 2014, there is only one commercial wireless charging system available for PEVs, an aftermarket system offered by Evatran and Bosch, and it is only available in North America. Automakers and their Tier One suppliers continue to be reticent on their plans for wireless EV charging.
Most wireless charging systems are in the pilot phase and are likely to remain there for another 2 to 3 years. By 2015-2016, however, models with built-in wireless charging capability will be available from several major automakers. Within a decade, wireless charging could be the leading way of charging EVs. Navigant Research forecasts that wireless charging equipment for light duty vehicles will grow by a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 108% from 2013 to 2022, reaching annual sales of slightly less than 302,000 units in 2022.
Electric Vehicles – Driving with Solar Power and Mobile Storage
Electric vehicle owners particularly appreciate the positive external effects and the environmental impact of their vehicles. The generation of electricity from renewable energy allows for a much more efficient implementation than does the production of biofuel. With the help of PV carports, electric vehicles can be 100 % clean energy without the pollution generated by the electric power plant.
Governments worldwide are keen to see increasing penetrations of EVs due to the environmental, economic, and energy security benefits engendered by these vehicles. According to Navigant Research more than 750,000 plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) will be driving on roads around the world by the end of 2014. Automakers will introduce several dozen new PEV models – from small city cars to higher-priced luxury vehicles – during the year, offering consumers unprecedented choice in emissions-free driving. The largest regional market for plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) is North America. Navigant Research expects that figure to grow rapidly over the next 10 years, as more models become
available, the price premium for PEVs compared to conventional vehicles narrows, and charging infrastructure is deployed widely. According to a new report from Navigant Research, the number of PEVs on roads in the United States will grow from nearly 296,000 in 2014 to more than 2.7 million in 2023.
